Movie description:

Awarded the title of best foreign language film during the 1995 Academy Award ceremony (aka. The Oscars), “Antonia's Line” is a classic of Dutch film. The world in which the titular Antonia lives is as dark as it is fairytale-like; full of love, tenderness but also brutality.

Hidden somewhere in the depths of the Netherlands is a picturesque town ruled by women. Dinners are eaten at one communal table, a helping hand is extended to everyone and discrimination of any kind is fading away. Anyone who dares to disturb this almost idyllic tranquility will be sentenced to exile. A mother, daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter, one at a time, go through their own peculiar cycle of life.

This is the beautiful life and the beautiful death of a matriarch.
