English-Slovene Lexicography - between Print and Online Dictionary Editions

This talk addresses the challenges of compiling, editing, and publishing general bilingual dictionaries from print to online editions, using contemporary English-Slovene dictionaries as a case study. The dictionaries will be presented based on their typological characteristics and examined in terms of their contents, target users, dictionary authors, editors, and publishers. Since the advent of the internet, the demand for print editions of dictionaries has sharply declined. Consequently, of the numerous print editions once available, only three are now accessible online: one comprehensive, one concise and one learner’s English-Slovene dictionary, and only the shortened version of the latter can be used free of charge.
