Our latest program: American Studies

American Studies at the Faculty of English? Sure!

We are launching a new B.A. program in which history intertwines with culture, and politics has a global dimension. The highlights include: a unique journey not only through the United States but also Canada and corners of Mexican culture; the richness of literature, language, and art of these regions; the political scenery of the USA and its international relations.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in classes covering the following topics:

  • American English as a foreign language
  • American popular literature: genres and conventions
  • American non-fiction
  • First inhabitants of North America: history, culture, and socio-political issues
  • The political system of the USA
  • Race and ethnicity in the USA
  • Introduction to American law
  • Selected issues of American art
  • Canadian life and institutions
  • Introduction to Canadian literature
  • Chicana/o culture and the USA-Mexico border
  • Cultural landscapes of Latin America
  • Spanish language course
