On 1 June 2026, a new research unit, the Laboratory for Social Neuroscience, was established at the Faculty of English. The Laboratory will focus on interdisciplinary research on social cognition, language processing in social contexts, and the neural mechanisms underlying communication and interpersonal interaction. Particular emphasis will be placed on investigating how social and affective factors influence the real-time processing of linguistic information. The Laboratory is headed by Dr Marcin Naranowicz.

Among the research topics pursued at the Laboratory are issues related to stereotypes, morality, bilingualism, and the processing of social evaluative feedback. These studies aim to contribute to a better understanding of how social context shapes cognitive and linguistic processes at the neural level.

Thanks to funding from the Excellence Initiative – Research University programme at AMU, the Laboratory has been equipped with a state-of-the-art electroencephalograph (EEG), enabling advanced research on the temporal dynamics of cognitive processes. This equipment allows for precise analysis of brain responses to linguistic and social stimuli with high temporal resolution, opening up new research opportunities in the neuroscience of language and social cognition.

The newly established unit aims not only to advance high-level scientific research but also to foster international collaboration and support the training of early-career researchers in the fields of cognitive and social neuroscience.
