Language, Mind, Technology #LMT is an interdisciplinary MA programme conducted in English. The aim of #LMT is to acquaint students with theoretical and practical knowledge on a number of topics related to the description, research and analysis of language using intelligent information systems. This Master’s program is aimed at University graduates who are interested in discovering the relationship between mind and language, and in developing their analytical and experimental skills.
This programme focuses on an integrated approach to linguistic research, combining theoretical and experimental perspectives from fields of science such as psycholinguistics, cognitive neuroscience, clinical linguistics, computational linguistics and artificial intelligence. In the course of the studies, students will acquire knowledge and tools related to computer science which will allow them to discover answers to key questions in interdisciplinary language research.
#LMT offers students the opportunity to participate in workshops or lectures conducted by entrepreneurs and experts in interdisciplinary research on language and data science. Also, planned study visits to companies will develop students’ practical skills.
The core courses offered within the program include:
- Introduction to computer science and programming
- Specialized statistical tools for linguists
- Python programming
- Artificial intelligence
- Natural language processing
- Introduction to bilingual brain
- Clinical linguistics
- Fuzzy grammar
- Lab and fieldwork-oriented research practice
Additionally, each year students will choose seminar courses from a list open to all M.A. programmes at the Faculty of English.
The offered subjects are based on the recognized strengths of the Faculty of English, where the interdisciplinary approach to linguistic research involves advanced empirical methods (e.g. obtaining multimedia, eye-tracking, electrophysiological or palatographic data). The Faculty of English has rich experience in the implementation of courses combining linguistics with other fields of science such as philosophy, mathematics, computer science, sociology, cognitive science.
#LMT is an excellent offer for Polish and international students who have completed their first-cycle studies in the fields of linguistics and/or psychology, and for graduates who are passionate about innovative and modern ways of studying language.
