English and Chinese Studies

The BA in English and Chinese Studies is a major conducted at the Faculty of English in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Faculty of Modern Languages and Literatures at AMU.

The courses within this major are conducted by experienced lecturers, including also native speakers of English and Chinese. The English and Chinese Studies programme offers students the opportunity to learn the language and literature as well as elements of history and culture of the United Kingdom or the United States (as selected by the student) and of China, as well as obtain a C1 level of proficiency in English and a B1 level in Chinese, in speech and writing. All the courses in the English studies part of the programme are conducted in English, whereas in the Chinese studies part, they are conducted in Polish or in English, depending on the learning path selected by the candidate. One can enrol for the ‘Polish path’ in each academic year, and for the ‘English path’ every three years (unavailable during the enrolment for the academic year 2023-2024).

English and Chinese are languages of global importance and coverage. Knowing both languages and having an appropriate level of knowledge on English-speaking countries and China, our graduates have the chance to be in a particularly favourable situation in the job market. The studies in our major will equip them with the competences expected of candidates for employees of, among others, international companies as well as institutions concerned with international cooperation between European countries and China.
