The Department of Applied English Linguistics and Language Teaching investigates foreign language learning and teaching and bilingual language processing. Our specific research interests are as follows:

  • The roles of the teacher in the educational process, teacher competence and cognitions, and models of teacher training and professional development
  • The role of the native language in foreign language learning
  • Intercultural Communicative Competence from the perspective of EFL classroom, teaching materials and external impact
  • The influence of wellbeing on foreign language learning
  • Communication in the language classroom
  • Language and cognition, the expression of motion by second language users, the effect of the second language on the first, and cognitive consequences of bilingualism
  • Working memory and language aptitude
