The Department of Applied English Linguistics and Language Teaching investigates foreign language learning and teaching and bilingual language processing. Our specific research interests are as follows:
- The roles of the teacher in the educational process, teacher competence and cognitions, and models of teacher training and professional development
- The role of the native language in foreign language learning
- Intercultural Communicative Competence from the perspective of EFL classroom, teaching materials and external impact
- The influence of wellbeing on foreign language learning
- Communication in the language classroom
- Language and cognition, the expression of motion by second language users, the effect of the second language on the first, and cognitive consequences of bilingualism
- Working memory and language aptitude
